Seahawks Basketball Shooting For Success

Runaway Bay Seahawks Men’s & Women’s Teams are in good hands with the appointment of two highly regarded coaches to head up the QABL Development League Program for 2009.

Former Kuwait National League maestro Ricardo Lawyer will enter his second year at the helm of the Seahawks Men.

Expectations are high after a successful first season that produced 15 – 3 win / loss record and included a D-League minor premiership.

“It’s going to be very competitive for players to be selected into our final 12 man squad”, Lawyer said.

“Discipline will be a key factor in whether we improve as a team. Last year we let ourselves down at times with lack of control”.

“I aim to stress the mental aspects of the game a lot more to the team and this should help us in close games”.

On the women’s front, local basketball stalwart and Runaway Bay Operations Manager Greg Fox is excited to have the opportunity to mentor the Lady Seahawks.

“We have a young, athletic and talented group that will pressure teams the length of the court”, Fox said.

“I would like to keep this group together for a number of years. There’s great potential to create a winning culture provided we learn how to work hard at each training session”.

The women’s line-up features a number of current Queensland junior reps - led by Emily Allen, Chloe Coughlin, and Stephanie Newbold.

The Seahawks preseason will commence late January with the season proper to tip-off early April.

In other basketball news, the Q-Deck Gold Coast Blaze will be holding an open training session at the Runaway Bay Indoor Sports Complex on Tuesday 13th January from 10am – 12noon.
