2010 QBL Official Draw Released

Following on from the success of the 2009 QBL State Championship, Australia’s top basketball talent will make their much anticipated return to the floor on Saturday 24th April 2010.  Basketball fans from around the state will have the chance to enjoy 252 fiercely contested regular season games played over 15 rounds, finishing with an explosive finals series on 20/21 August 2010. 

The League continues to go from strength-to-strength, with new rivalries forming up and down the coast of Queensland, setting the stage for a thrilling season to celebrate 25 years of the QBL in 2010. 

Basketball Queensland CEO Graham Burns     is looking forward to the League reaching new heights next year.  “With all 14 Associations returning in 2010, the stage is now set for a monumental season as teams go into battle for the right to claim the 25th year title” he said. 

“Expect Bundaberg, Maroochydore, Caboolture, Northside and Ipswich to come out a blazing, as they attempt to bring their first ever Championship back to their Association, while both Cairns and Gladstone have the tough job of defending their titles from 2009” Burns said.

“The continuation of livestats and livestreaming will allow the QBL to be beamed into homes around the globe giving our athletes greater exposure and meaning fans can access every single game anywhere, anytime” he said. 

Highlights of the 2010 QBL State Championship draw include-

  •            Defending Men’s Champion Cairns Marlins will open their year with a bang as they face the Mackay Meteors.
  •            Defending Women’s Champion Gladstone Power will head north in Round 1 to face the highly decorated Townsville Flames.
  •            South West v Gold Coast and Ipswich v Toowoomba kick off a mouth watering feast of local rivalries in Round 1.
  •            Fans will have to wait until Round 7 to see the 2009 Grand Final replay of the Cairns Marlins v the Rockhampton Rockets.
  •            The Northside Wizards will return to Vince Hickey Stadium in Round 2 to face the Brisbane Capitals, as they try to block out their hasty exit from the competition against the Capitals in the playoffs the last two years running.

Expect more fireworks on and off the court as the QBL Celebrates 25 Years in 2010.
