Mens Coaching appointment
The South West Metro ’Robertson Gardens’ PIRATES are pleased to announce that we have secured the services of Andy Sobieszuk for the 2011 QUEENSLAND BASKETBALL LEAGUE SEASON. Andy emigrated to Australia from Germany in 2008 and brings to the Pirates an array of over 20 years of professional coaching experience in the strong Euro Leagues, from Junior Regional and National Teams up to the renowned Basketball Bundesliga League(BBL) in Germany.
In support of Andy the PIRATES are very pleased to appoint our 2003 QABL Championship winning Coach Peter Pollock to the position of Assistant coach. Peter will provide a wealth of intelligence on the State Basketball composition and the opposing teams key strategies.
As our 2010 Pirates Coach Stephen Black ,who took the to team to its second consecutive Semi Finals series, is unable to commit for the whole 2011 season due to work commitments and has agreed to continue as the PIRATES Mens Coaching Advisor. He has built a very strong rapport with the Pirates team who have performed outstandingly over the last few years with development of its ‘Home Grown’ talent. The quest to repeat the Glory of 2003 is within the Pirates grasp as we set sail for 2011
Womens Coaching Appointment
We are very pleased to advise that the ‘Robertson Gardens’ PIRATES Womens Team will be coached in 2011 by Phil Binder and assisted by Chris Brown. Phil has been a long term PIRATES coach in both Domestic and Representative Competition as well as experience coaching in the World Youth League in Hawaii. He took time last year to learn the ropes of the QBL by assisting the Caboolture Suns Womens team and this year he has put together a plan to build on the solid foundation that Jason Chainey has laid over the last few years with the PIRATES.
Chris Brown has a long association with the PIRATES and has extensive experience in junior ranks of Domestic, Representative and Schools Competitions. He will provide invaluable support to Phil in his 1st Year at the top State Level-QBL.
As our 2010 Lady Pirates coach Jason Chainey has agreed to take on the role of PIRATES Womens Coaching Advisor. He will continue to be active in the PIRATES program whilst he takes well deserved breaks from continuous seasons at WNBL and QBL level.
