MARTIN RETURNING TO McDONALDS METEORS

The McDonalds Mackay Meteors are pleased to announce that standout guard Rhys Martin will rejoin the team for the 2011 Queensland Basketball League season after agreeing to terms on Friday.

The 25-year old playmaker was named to the QBL All-Star Five last season and is coming off an impressive 2011 NBL season, where he has averaged 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 15 games with the Wollongong Hawks.

Martin was a huge contributor for the Mcdonalds Meteors in last year's QBL, leading the team to the Grand Final against Rockhampton.  He hopes to take the team one win better this year.

"It was a disappointing way to finish the season last year going down in the grand final and I definitely don't want that feeling again," Martin said.

"This year my sole focus is on bringing a QBL championship to Mackay and with the group that we have it is definitely a realistic goal."

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said a lot of work had been done to make sure Martin returned to the McDonalds Meteors.

"Retaining Rhys was definitely a high priority for our club," Khalu said.

"He has been an outstanding player at this level for many years and he's a true professional and that's the type of player we want in our program."

"It's a fantastic signing for our organisation as we look to make a legitimate championship run this year," Khalu added.
