GANGE NEW DANGER MAN FOR MACKAY

The McDonalds Mackay Meteors may have luck on their side this season after landing the signing of dynamic guard Matt Gange, after he moved to Mackay for work commitments.

Gange trekked to North QLD from Sydney in September last year to begin his Auto-Electrician apprenticeship.  A talented Australian Rules Football player, Gange began 2011 preparing to play in the local Mackay AFL competition.

However after only a couple of individual shoot-around sessions at Mackay Basketball the standout scorer knew that he wasn't done with hoops just yet.

At only 25, Gange is a journeyman in the sport.  Starting his junior career in Victoria, Gange starred for Vic Country representative state teams until he moved to Adelaide where he finished his junior career with the South Australian Under 20 team.

Gange then moved back to Victoria to begin his senior career with the Mildura Mavericks in the ABA where he played two seasons.  He then returned to Adelaide to play a further three ABA seasons with the Forrestville Eagles, when at the same time he was also a training player with the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League. After his stint with the Sixers, Gange returned back to the SEABL where he was a standout for the Albury Wodonga Bandits, averaging 17 points per game in his final season with the club in 2009.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said picking up a player of Gange's calibre was a huge bonus for the club.

"I was sitting in my office one day and this guy came in and asked if he could shoot-around," Khalu said.

"I went out and rebounded for him and right away I knew we had a player in our midst."

"It took a bit of convincing from Coach Kruger and I to get him involved but when he did arrive to his first McDonalds Meteors practice Matt showed great commitment and worked extremely hard."

"We'll be looking to him to bring that experience to the floor and he gives us another legitimate threat from the perimeter," Khalu added.

Gange will have his first chance to impress for the McDonalds Meteors when they head to Rockhampton this Saturday for a QBL Pre-season Blitz tournament.
