Gold Coast Rollers Resurrected

The Gold Coast Rollers was officially resurrected at the 2nd Annual Season Launch/Funny Money night at Carrara Indoor Stadium last night.

In front of over 350 people who flocked to the makeshift casino in the back foyer, the Rollers had two major announcements to make on the night and none of them disappointed the faithful.

The first was the announcement of the partnership between the Gold Coast Rollers and Beyond Building Energy who have signed on as major sponsors for both the men and women’s teams for the upcoming season.

The ownership group, managing directors and marketing team was on hand and was introduced up on stage and handed the players their team shirt for the season as they were introduced on stage and officially branded the program, The Beyond Building Energy Gold Coast Rollers.

“It’s the first time in years since this program has had a major sponsor of this calibre,” Rollers captain Jason Aucoin said.

“It’s a real tribute to the program and the direction it’s going and I’m proud to be a part of it. Over the past two years, I now trust its in good hand.”

The who’s who of Gold Coast Basketball was in attendance for the historic return including Blaze coach Joey Wright, his assistant and former Roller players himself, Ronnie “the Rat” Radliff, Blaze ownership group the Tomlinson family, Blaze players Chris Goulding, Shaun Gleeson and Pero Vasiljevic plus both Seahawks GC and Gold Coast Waves D-League teams who were introduced on the night also.

Rollers head coach Mick Conlon made the second major announcement after introducing his entire player roster for the 2011 season.

Despite not being able to attend the event due to a prior wedding commitment, the player announcement was greeted with arousing applause and cheers.

“Lastly, this player couldn’t be here tonight but he is a two time NBL championship winner with the Brisbane Bullets and the South Dragons,” Conlon said.

“He was the point guard for the Australian Boomers at last year’s World Championship of Basketball in Turkey, considered to be one of the very best point guards in the NBL, I’m happy to announce that Adam Gibson will be playing for the Gold Coast Rollers in 2011,” he concluded as the crowd erupted.

The Rollers have also relocated all home games back to Carrara Stadium just like the good old days, affectionately known as the Rollerdome, where it is expected to build on last season’s success.

The Rollers season tips off against the South West Pirates in South Brisbane on Saturday May 7 at Hibiscus Stadium.
