QBL POWER Rankings Week 2

This Weeks theme: Wrestling

HULK HOGAN

“What you gonna do brother, when Hulkamania comes down on you?”

Whether he is the good guy, the bad guy or pushing 70 years old, no-one questions Hulkamania

1. Mackay

Although Deba went bananas and that won’t happen every week, beating Rocky without Rhys means I vastly underestimated this group. Apologies to Coach Kruger and Super GM Khalu - huge week coming up @ Townsville and Cairns.

 2. Gold Coast

Struggled mightily at the Pirate Ship to eek out a victory, then hit the road and got it done. This team is a Micky C team – tough, uncompromising, and now 3-0 on the road after a central swing. Gibson’s class is a huge component but they may have a little more up their sleeve. Can they get Rocky?

STONE COLD

“Stone Cold 3:16 says you did what you had to do... What?”

1. Brisbane

Coach Ryan has his young group rallying around a bona fide stud in Garlepp. Some early road victories are one thing but taking it to a full strength Force lineup was impressive. I am officially on the McCarron Bandwagon... when in Rome.

2. Townsville

‘They are who we thought they were’. I don’t think they have hit top gear yet but this week they will need to pick it up a notch.

THE ROCK

“The Rock says know your role” I can smell what the Rock is cookin’

 1. Northside

Whilst breaking the Rucker/Black record for FGA from a backcourt, this team pushed a great Townsville group before handling the Marlins – no mean feat. They know who they are, not everyone else can say that.

2. Rocky

Yes. They didn’t have Stevie Weigh. But Yes, this loss would have hurt them badly. And Yes, I still have them making the final at least. Actually shaping as a season defining roadtrip this week.

3. Toowoomba

Has there ever been a more memorable round 1 victory than Toowoomba breaking ‘The Streak’? I desperately wanted them to win game #2 so I could put them on top of the rankings but they will have to settle for 7. The point guard can play, they broke the drought, life is good up the mountain.

THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR

The Warrior, a personal favourite of mine, left everything out there... even if it was never really enough to dominate his time.

1. Cairns

The kids are getting their chance and playing like a young team. Great job @ Townsville but the Wizards loss at home could really hurt them in a division where every win counts. They may be winless but they showed a lot.

RICK FLAIR

He is a survivor... Outwit, Outlast, Outplay. Woooooo!

1. Ipswich

Stolly solid... again... but their full strength lineup has to be able to beat Brisbane at home if they want to make some noise. Have to work out how to slow the game down so they can pound and ground.

2. Caboolture

Big upset of the Pirates is a highlight in what I still fear may be a brutal year. You can’t bet on the opposition missing 20+ freethrows again but a huge effort to bounce back from a disappointing week 1 loss.

3. South West

Teys and Broom were awesome in a tight week 1 loss. If either isn’t awesome you get their week 2 result. Carter will be a very welcome return and they will need it on the Central Swing.

4. Bundy

Ok, we all saw a loss at Rocky coming, but only scoring 64 at home has to be confounding the Bundy brains trust. My favourite team are wavering a little but 2 home games coming up will give them a chance to get on a roll. Here’s hoping for a 125-120 shootout in the near future.

SHANE McMAHON

I can’t stand nepotism

1. Gladstone

2 tough losses for the Power but they can’t get their head down. Borgan has to take over but luckily for them he has the ability to do so.

2. Maroochydore

This week’s game against Brisbane is huge for them. Admittedly, Ipswich’s size was not a good matchup for them but it is concerning when they shoot better from the 3 than the field, but only take 15 3’s. A 2-19 quarter will make life tough too... luckily it’s early days.
