TEAMS PREPARE FOR NORTHERN CHALLENGE

Both the Global Product Search Meteorettes and McDonalds Meteors will hit the road for the first time this QBL season with games in Townsville and Cairns this weekend.

The 'Northern Challenge' or 'Sunshine Swing' is the toughest road trip for opposing teams in the QBL and history has shown only a few teams have come away from the weekend successful.

With the tough task ahead however, both Mackay teams are feeling confident going in.

With a big win against the Rockhampton Cyclones last Saturday, the Global Product Search Meteorettes currently have a 1-win and 1-loss record.

On the men's side the McDonalds Meteors are currently undefeated with two-wins.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said the road trip this weekend would give both teams a true indication of where they are at.

"There's no doubt this is the toughest road trip to make for any team in the QBL," Khalu said.

"Townsville have been a QBL powerhouse in the women's competition for the past 10-years and this year the club has put a very strong mens roster together also."

"Then we have to back up the next night in Cairns where both the Dolphins & Marlins teams will also be keen to get victories."

"We expect to play in some pretty hostile venues which adds to the challenge and there's no doubt the travel takes it's toll."

"But in saying that we are not going to make any excuses and our expectation is to come away this weekend with 4-wins," Khalu added.

Mackay plays in Townsville on Friday night and then will head up the Bruce Highway to play in Cairns on Saturday evening.
