QBL POWER Rankings Week 3

QBL POWER Rankings Week 3
This Weeks theme: The Princess Bride

If you haven’t seen this movie... shame on you! An absolute Classic with a little bit of everything (much like this season)

Keep in mind people, this is a reflection of a 2 week span and expectations are everything.

Prince Humperdink

Yes he is the King, the greatest hunter ever born, but we just know someone will defeat him in the end... or will they?

1. Northside
It isn’t a coincidence that the 2 teams who beat Rocky feature in the top of the rankings but the Wizards went 3-0 this fortnight and are getting it done. I question if they have the structure to make it the length but maybe this year’s team is the underdog who gets hot and knocks out a contender, instead of what the faithful is used to being on the receiving end of.

2. Gold Coast
Gibbo gave us maybe the best game in QBL history when you factor in both ends and the Coast are cooking. The north trip is the only one they are yet to conquer but if Gibson plays all the big ones they have contender written all over them. Beat down on Rocky came big and came early.
QUIZ QUESTION – Which player holds the NBL record for points in a game?

Inigo Montoya

“Hello... My name is Inigo Montoya... You hurt my season, prepare to die”

3. Cairns

Thought they were very well drilled and executed great in Bundy but WOW did they blow one they couldn’t afford to the next day. They are young, and will be inconsistent but Brebner is in good shape and is their rock. The way they play is a credit to Burdon but expectations in Cairns are not the same as other places.

4. Ipswich
Benny T is gone but this group rebounded from the early Toowoomba loss and ground out the Pirates. Stolly keeps defying the odds, racking up numbers game after game but even more pressure to handle the ball and get them into their stuff will be on Black now. Will the Toowoomba loss early come back to haunt them and can Luke Cann be a consistent starter for Thompson?

5. Townsville

I saw them manhandle Mackay to the point where it was barely even a game and then they thumped Gladstone but Rocky beat them down on Saturday. This was the challenge everyone was looking to point at as them being a favourite but big players make big plays in big games and it looked like Blanchfield was the only one to show up. Not a great sign.

Miracle Max

“Think it’ll work? It’ll take a Miracle...”

6. Caboolture
Someone explain to me how this is happening! These guys must be playing hard and deserve all the credit in the world because I don’t get it. Usually that means chemistry, intensity and coaching. They should be very proud of what they are doing.

7. Brisbane
Came back to earth a little but what do you expect without my man-crush McCarron. Teams like the Wizards are exactly where this group aspires to be, knock off some big fellas, win the ones you should and split the maybes.

The Man in Black

Are they Wesley or the Dread Pirate Roberts? Maybe they are playing left handed

8. Rockhampton

Talk about a wild fortnight... get handled down south and then give it to Townsville. Pero must mean more to them than I thought and while everyone expects them there at the end, have they just blown home court for the finals?

9. Gladstone
I want to give the Power some credit for holding on at home... its been a rough ride. In a recurring theme, Borgan needs to take over (he is capable) and they need to play rough, tough and disciplined to string some together.

10. Bundaberg
Squeeked by the Pirates (minus Carter) and lost to Cairns in 2 home games that have the faithful a little concerned. Hansen doesn’t look right and Meyerding is a 2 trying to play the 1 until Kiernan returns. Need to be tighter at both ends of the floor to get this moving in the right direction. Shack is a beast though and they need to translate their dominance on the boards.

11. Mackay
A bye hurts but they went from flying high to flying high part II in the rankings. Big sunshine swing road losses brings them back to the pack and searching for answers. Their defence was horrible against the Heat and for as good as Deba was, I think he really hurt them because it was all Deba, all the time. Better teams can shut that down and it keeps the ball out of Coenraad’s hands. Martin changes everything.

Count Rugen

The 6 fingered villain... maybe this could explain current form? They’re only MOSTLY dead.

12. South West

My boys are struggling. Even the return of Carter didn’t help with he and Teys combining to shoot horribly. Huge week for them to get on the board, the return of the human chest, Mitch Thomas should be a welcome boost. Its now or never for my mighty Pirates, a week of training for Carter should get this thing back on track.

13. Toowoomba
The Leggan – Teys matchup may decide this one. This is the kind of game Toowoomba needs to win in order to continue to gain credibility. They are giving up way too many points and that’s no way to win games, but this is not your daddy’s mountaineers.

14. Maroochydore
The Clippers are not losing bad games, they just need to get on the board and fast. I would back them in at home against a few teams right now but winning breads confidence and I would think this might be at an all time low right now. Is help on the way?
