Meteors Turn Yellow to Help Fight Cancer

30th June 2011 | Joel Khalu - Mackay Basketball General Manager

This Saturday, July 2, Mackay Basketball will be hosting a very special fundraising event when they take on the Maroochydore Clippers at the Crater in Round 9 of the QBL.

The Global Product Search Meteorettes will be wearing special yellow armbands and the McDonalds Meteors will be wearing commemorative yellow jerseys when both teams compete in 'CALL TO ARMS' matches in support of the fight against Men's Cancers.

Call to Arms is a national Cancer Council event, asking players from all sporting codes to hold a Call to Arms match, wear a yellow armband and raise funds during their sporting season.  This event will be the first of it's kind to be held at Mackay Basketball during the QBL season.

The McDonalds Meteors and Global Product Search Meteorettes are asking the community to come along to the games this Saturday dressed in their brightest yellow outfit and make a donation to the cause.

All spectators in attendance will have the chance to purchase their very own McDonalds Meteors, limited edition Call To Arms playing singlet, which will be auctioned off after the game to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said the event was a great way for the club to help raise awareness and much needed funds.

"Participating in Call To Arms is a great way for our team and our supporters to work together for a cause that's close to all of our hearts," Khalu said

"Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer, so it's important for us to show our support for them and the wider community."

"Hopefully we can get a full house down to the Crater to be apart of this wonderful community event and watch a pair of exciting QBL games," Khalu added.

All money raised from Call To Arms will help the Cancer Council to prevent and detect cancers in men, find new treatments through cancer research, educate the community and support men who face a cancer diagnosis.

Members of the the McDonalds Meteors team will be available for questions and photos in their commemorative jerseys, on Friday morning (July1) at 11am at Mackay Basketball.
