Mackay Teams Go Perfect On Southern Road Trip
The Global Product Search Meteorettes and the McDonalds Meteors solidified themselves as legitimate QBL championship contenders, after both teams went undefeated on their road trip south over the weekend.
The Global Product Search Meteorettes accounted for the Gold Coast Rollers on Friday night, 89-73, the South West Pirates on Saturday night, 80-69 and the Ipswich Force on Sunday, 76-62.
On the men's side the McDonalds Meteors defeated the ladder leading Gold Coast Rollers, 89-73, the Southwest Pirates, 101-83 and on Ipswich Force, 96-70.
After the wins on the weekend the Global Product Search Meteorettes currently sit in second place on the QBL ladder behind Gladstone, while the McDonalds Meteors have moved up a few spots to also sit second, only trailing Townsville.
For their efforts over the weekend, Global Product Search Meteorettes star Rachel Allison was named women's QBL Player of the Week for round 10, while McDonalds Meteor swingman Tim Coenraad was named QBL Player of the Week for the men's league.
Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said the positive results reflected how hard both teams have been working on the practice floor.
"Both of our teams are really playing extremely well right now and I believe this is due to the effort and intensity going into our training sessions," Khalu said.
"It's getting to that crunch time of the season where every game is big and every win is vital, and for our club to come out 6-0 from the weekend definitely sets up a great platform for us going forward."
This Saturday night the Global Product Search Meteorettes will face the 8th placed Townsville Flames while the McDonalds Meteors also take on northern rivals the Townsville Heat in a mouthwatering top of the table clash.
