It's showtime for Rockets

WILL Ferrell's legendary character from Semi-Pro Jackie Moon said it himself: “In the annals of history people are going to be talking about three things: the discovery of fire, invention of the submarine, and the Republik Nightclub Rockets round 11 QBL double header.”
Well, not quite.
But Rockhampton's Glenn Scott, whose on-court appearance mirrors Moon's, says this weekend's double header against Townsville and Cairns is as big as it gets in the Rockets' pursuit of back-to-back championships in 2011.
“It's probably the biggest weekend of the year,” Scott said.
“We really need to win every game remaining this year to have a good chance of hosting the finals.
“If we go up there and beat Townsville and Cairns then we're a big chance because we've got a couple home games up our sleeve.”
Tonight's opponent Townsville is currently sitting on top of the QBL men's ladder while Cairns is certainly going to be fired up following their 91-59 loss to the Rockets in Rockhampton last weekend.
In his eighth season with the Rockets in the QBL, Scott has become a crowd favourite with the locals at Hegvold Stadium, not only because of his old-school look, but for his determined, old-school approach on court.
“Everyone seems to get a kick out of it,” he said. “I get a few people come up and go, ‘Semi-Pro, Semi-Pro!'.”
“We've got so many players that can score, so I'm there to play my role.
“My job is to get the rebounds, play defence, bring energy and do all the, I suppose, ugly sort of stuff. That's what I bring to the team.
“If you have everyone out there wanting to score it's not going to be good for your team. You need guys that play their own role.”
And, where did the idea come from?
“It's a bit of a long story. Towards the end of last year I was just putting the headband on at training as motivation because if I look like an idiot I actually have to play well,” Scott joked.
“Otherwise I'd just be the idiot with the headband. I started wearing the headband and they started calling me Jackie Moon... so I thought I'd have a bit of fun with it and wear the Jackie Moon socks and headband this season.”
