'CALL TO ARMS' A HUGE SUCCESS

Mackay Basketball's 'Call to Arms' QBL fundraising event was a huge success with more than $3500.00 being raised for the Queensland Cancer Council.

For the first time in the club's history, McDonalds Meteors QBL singlets were auctioned on-court directly after the teams 85-49 win against the Maroochydore Clippers.  In an inspiring show of support, the Mackay Basketball faithful dug deep for the special men's cancer awareness cause, with the bidding intensity increasing in both fun and price-levels as the auction progressed.

The fully signed McDonalds Meteors team singlet fetched the highest winning bid on the night, an amazing $960.00.

Tim Coenraad's number 22 singlet raised $825.00, the highest amount among the playing group.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said the auction exceeded the clubs expectations.

"Mackay Basketball is extremely happy with the outcome of our first ever QBL jersey auction," Khalu said.

"We were hoping the basketball community would support the initiative and by the amount raised, they certainly did that plus a whole lot more."

"It's great to see people get behind such a fantastic cause and we are very thankful for everybody's involvement and tremendous support."

The club have already started generating ideas for next year's event and plan to host a special 'Pink' singlet night with the Global Product Search Meteorettes to help raise awareness to help fight women's cancers.
