Bulls' big man back for 2012

13th August 2011 | News Mail

SLAM-DUNKING powerhouse Will Shackleford has signed on for a third season with the Bundaberg Bulls after shunning better offers.

Shackleford has emerged as one of the Queensland Basketball League's leading players, achieving double figures in both points scored and rebounds in all but one game in the past two seasons.

Shackleford has brought to mind big man Rod “The Rocket” Harris who was dominant in the late-80s and early-90s to the mind of older Bundaberg basketball pundits.

The American college basketball import has been a visible star on the court with his theatrical dunks and signature salutes.

He has been a star off the court, as a coach and camp leader for emerging Bundaberg juniors.

Shackleford said Bundaberg's climate and the friendships he had formed had prompted his decision.

He has been offered more lucrative contracts but is determined to lead the Bulls into the Queensland Basketball League play-offs next year.
