GEORGE, ALLISON TAKE CLUB M.V.P HONOURS

McDonalds Meteors guard Deba George and Global Product Search Meteorettes forward Rachel Allison were recognised last night by winning the club's Most Valuable Player Awards at the Mackay QBL Presentation Event in front of 180 guests at the Harrup Park Country Club.

It was fitting reward for the pair who have both had tremendous 2011 Queensland Basketball League home & away campaigns.

George finished the 18-game regular season with career best numbers, averaging 21.2 points while shooting an astonishing 52.1% from the floor and 45% from behind the 3-point line.  Along with his scoring output George also contributed 3.8 rebounds and almost three assists per game.

For the women, Allison lead the Global Product Search Meteorettes in both scoring (22.9ppg) and rebounding (10.2rpg) over 17-games to claim her first ever club M.V.P award.

George was honoured about receiving the M.V.P trophy.

"We have a great group of players and to be recognised as the MVP of our team is definitely an honour," George said.

"It's definitely been a fun season and I am really enjoying my time back here playing in Mackay."

"The support we have from the community is fantastic and hopefully we can top it all off by going out and winning the QBL championship at home this weekend," George added.

In other awards, first year McDonalds Meteor guard Matt Gange took out both the men's Best Defensive Player Award and Players' Player award while star swingman Tim Coenraad won the teams Coaches Award.

For the women it was a night to remember for Tami Willey who collected both the Coaches Award and Players' Player award.  Up and coming Meteorette Rylie Smith was named the teams Best Defensive Player.

McDonalds Meteors forward Morgan Anderson won the club's first ever 'Commitment to Community' award and Mal Steindl was named Club Person of the Year for his outstanding volunteer services.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said the event a great way to celebrate the achievements of everybody involved before heading into the QBL Finals this weekend.

"Both of our teams have had outstanding seasons so far," Khalu said.

"For our men's team to finish first overall and the women's program to finish second definitely shows that our program is doing some something right."

"We are the only club in QLD to have both teams playing in the QBL semi-finals so it's definitely an exciting time to support basketball in Mackay," Khalu added.
