REBETZKE RETURNS TO LEAD METEORETTES

Mackay Basketball is pleased to announce that Wade Rebetzke will return as Head Coach for the Global Product Search Meteorettes for the 2012 QBL season.

Rebetzke has been at the helm of the Meteorettes team for the past two seasons compiling a 28-wins and 8-loss record, while also earning dual QBL Coach of the Year awards for his efforts during both campaigns.

In 2010, the Meteorettes reached the QBL Quarter Finals only to be beaten by Townsville and in 2011 the Meteorettes were eliminated by Bundaberg in the QBL semi-final.

Rebetzke said the goal in 2012 was to go beyond that and be playing in the QBL championship decider.

"Come August next year there's no doubt we want to be playing for a QBL championship," Rebetzke said.

"We were disappointed that we didn't get that opportunity this year and the semi-final loss really left a bad taste with everybody involved because we were definitely good enough to win."

"We now have some unfinished business and I am looking forward to the challenges the 2012 season will bring," Rebetzke added.

Mackay Basketball General Manager Joel Khalu said having Rebetzke back on board was a positive step for the club moving forward.

"Having Wade return as Head Coach of the Global Product Search Meteorettes is great for our organisation," Khalu said.

"He (Wade) brings a wealth of experience from his days as a QBL player and being a native of Mackay he has a real passion and drive to make our women's program a huge success," Khalu added.

Rebetzke said while recruiting some quality WNBL level players to the program was an immediate priority, he was also excited about the prospect of developing some of the Mackay junior players that are coming through.

"We definitely want to work on developing our local kids by giving them an opportunity to play in the QBL at home in Mackay."

"There a number of quality juniors excelling in the clubs development initiatives and it will be great to see them rise up to yet another level."

The Global Product Search Meteorettes will begin a pre-season training program in late november before take a short break over the Christmas period.
