2012 Rollers Mens Coaches In Place

The Gold Coast Rollers have looked to improve on their 2011 QBL record by re-appointing last season’s QBL Coach of the Year, Mick Conlon for a further three seasons.

In his two seasons so far at the helm, Conlon has guided the Rollers to back-to-back playoff appearances and last season tied for equal first with an imposing 15 – 3 record.

In a bid to overcome the short fall in the playoffs the last two season, Conlon has already started tweaking his staff and team to give the 2012 season a legitimate shake and bring Championship Glory to the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association (GCCRBA) development officer and ever popular Joel McInnes will be making a return for his third straight year under Conlon and Gold Coast Basketballs stalwart Steve Weiland has been appointed as another assistant.

Weiland brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table having played and coached in the QBL over the past 8 years and is currently coaching the GCCRBA Under 16 boys team and possesses a reputation for developing junior talent.

“We have been mindful of trying to forge a good relationship with the association over the past couple of seasons,” Conlon said.

“Bringing Joely back was a no brainer but having Steve on board will not only further grow the relationship between the two groups, but his input will be invaluable as we push deep into the playoffs this season,” he concluded.

Conlon, who is currently in his third season serving under Joey Wright as one of his assistants at the Meriton Gold Coast Blaze, has also begun his player recruiting drive, securing some former Gold Coast players to strengthen the core group of local talent returning.

The QBL Rollers have direct links to the Meriton Gold Coast Blaze, the GCCRBA D-League team and the GCCRBA that has streamlined the game allowing local junior players, coaches and officials direct pathways from Association level to NBL level right in here on the Gold Coast.
