THE Cyclones have turned back the clock for the 2012 Queensland Women's Basketball League season by having Frenchville Sports Club as their main sponsors.

"They were our main sponsor 10 or 11 years ago," media spokesman Darren Richardson said.

"The wheel does turn a full circle and they are back again."

Richardson said the Cyclones had enjoyed a long and fulfilling sponsorship relationship with Hog's Breath Cafe.

However he was not prepared to elaborate on what the mascot would be to replace the "Hogster" in 2012.

"I know I won't be getting in it (the suit)," he said.

Now it is time to move on with the team now known as the Frenchville Sports Club Cyclones.

"Frenchville is the biggest sporting club in town and this is a good factor for our (Rockhampton Basketball) juniors," he said.

Also Frenchville Sports Club is not adding another code to its impressive list that already comes under its wing.

Another bonus is sponsorship from the club gives the Cyclones stability as it is spread over two years.

A further tie between Frenchville and the Cyclones is that over the years the Cyclones have introduced, and continue to provide opportunities, to local players.

Frenchville Sports Club chairman Graeme Brady is also excited about renewing a strong link with basketball at an elite level.

"I'm very happy and excited as basketball has got the best profile of the high profile (CQ) sports," he said.

"As a sports club, Frenchville sees extra value in sponsorship of the Cyclones as many of the Frenchville Panthers players are in the team.

"It's really important we keep the juniors going."

Another exciting announcement for the team is confirmation star player Nicole Romeo will suit up again for the Rockhampton side.

"Last year she was the MVP (Most Valuable Player) in the league," Richardson said.

Point guard Romeo was a star last year regularly scoring over 30 points in matches.

However, it is not just her point scoring contribution that makes Romeo a valuable player on the Cyclones roster.

"The local players feed off their positivity," Richardson said, "That helps them improve out of site."

A bonus for Cyclones coach Heath Millar is that Romeo will return to Rockhampton fully fit after completing her obligations with Townsville team in the WNBL competition.

Richardson said the Cyclones were set to make further announcements in the near future.

"Heath is hoping to finalise more signings in the next fortnight," Richardson said.

There is still plenty of time for both the Frenchville Sports Club Cyclones and the Mine Corp Rockets to prepare for the new season.

Richardson said the QBL season would begin on May 11 with the two Rockhampton teams having an away game while the first home matches were scheduled for Hegvold Stadium on May 19.

Fitness training begins on Monday for the Cyclones.
