Match Report from Cougars President Joe Mildenhall
Things went well when we got on the board with the first goal of the game with some slick work out of the back line resulting in a set shot for Reyne making his return. From there the Bulldogs got the ascendancy with the wind and even with both myself and Nick Rhodes on Stevo up front he was proving a hard task with the bulldogs kicking 3.4 for a first quarter lead.
The Second Quarter we played out of skin as a team, Josh Mackie and James Roughen dominating in the midfield and the backs were in fine form again stopping the bulldogs at the Half Forward line time and time again, we eventually came out the winners of the Quarter 2 goals to 1! A sign of things to come when we have a full team on board.
The third quarter our legs started to tire and saw the Bulldogs get the upper hand and get there run of half back down the wings working really well as we struggled to man up, Andrew Leckie and Jacob Edy running strongly all quarter and never gave up. Unfortunately with a few minutes to go in the Quarter we went a man down when I went down with a knee injury leaving Rhodes all alone on Stevo and doing a great job!
The Fourth Quarter we lost both our Eagles fill ins and this left us 3 down, we couldn't match it with the Bulldogs as they ran away again to run up a score that didn't reflect the way played and fought all game.
Some great Individual efforts across the park with the back line standing up and putting up a massive effort! Josh Mackie and James Roughen among the best on ground with Josh picking up Players Player for the day!
Lets all get to Training this week and have a full team come Saturday!
On another note I hate to say it but my season is over due to an ACL letting go in my knee and requiring surgery to fix in the coming weeks, its been a good season playing with you lads and I'll be there as Hydration Technician for the rest of the season as I want another premiership!
Cheers, Your President
Joe Mildenhall
