The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League is pleased to announce that a very special event will be taking place on Sunday 28th of March, at the Trentham Recreational Reserve when we join with the Trentham FNC and the Hepburn Shire Council to jointly host the inaugural “Trentham Cup”.
The Trentham Cup will be a 1 day “Lightning Premiership” where 4 Football & Netball Clubs will each play 2 reduced games plus a Grand Final for the 2 leading teams. The clubs competing will be the Trentham FNC, Illabarook FNC, Maryborough Rovers FNC & Campbell’s Creek FNC.
This is an exciting initiative where the MCDFNL have been working closely with the Trentham FC in gaining some government assistance to help the club improve their facilities. This is a positive for all clubs as the redevelopment will see an enormous improvement to facilities such as visitor change rooms, home change rooms, resurfaced netball courts and viewing shed and upgraded public toilets.
Trentham President Rod Hassett said “This Trentham Cup day will help us as a Football club move forward.”
“Days like the Trentham Cup will give the broader community a chance to see the state of our facilities and why we need these events to help us move forward.”
“Clubs like Trentham are working closely with local government departments and community groups to help improve sporting facilities such as the Trentham sporting ground. The future of our club needs to be strong so the future generations will have a place to enjoy their sports.”
“Many than2010 Trentham Cup such as gate takings, small admission fee, bar, canteen, and raffle will be used to assist the Hepburn Shire and the Trentham FNC in upgrading their facilities for the benefit of all users and visitors to this venue.
Hepburn Shire Mayor, Janine Booth said “It is great to see the Trentham Football and Netball Club working so actively to help raise funds to improve the facilities at the reserve.”
“Recreational assets such as this are central to helping ks to Rod Ward and his team, for assisting our club with this day”.
All the proceeds from the families and young people to stay connected to their local community”, she said.
“Last year the Hepburn Shire Council formed a working party with the club, the reserve committee, league officials, representatives from the Department of Sustainability and Environment and members of the local community to look at ways to help keep this great community asset alive.”
“Through this process it was agreed that priority needed to be given to improving the visitor and umpires’ change rooms, the public toilets and upgrading the outdoor netball courts.”
“Funding has now been sourced for the netball courts and we are awaiting the outcome of a funding application to the Federal Government for the other works.”
“The Lightening Premiership promises to be a lot of fun while helping to preserve a really worthwhile community asset.”
The Bendigo Bank Maryborough & Castlemaine District Football & Netball League see this as an exciting opportunity for all clubs competing as it will provide each team with some valuable match practice leading into the 2010 season and also the chance to take home some prize money for their club, as the successful team that wins the 2010 Trentham Cup will receive $500.
We encourage as many people as possible to turn out “in force” and get behind this fantastic initiative. It would be great to see a big crowd turn out and support!
