In a fantastic result for the diehard Trentham FNC fans, the Trentham put a winless 2009 season behind them when they powered home in a brilliant last half to win the 2010 Trentham Cup against a very impressive Maryborough Rovers FNC side.
MCDFNL Secretary Rod Ward said “By any measure it must be considered a very successful day, and a huge crowd turned up to witness a high class day of football and netball. Our sincere appreciation go to the Maryborough Rovers FNC, Illabarook FNC and the Campbells Creek FNC who got behind this important event to show their support for the Trentham FNC and help them raise much needed funds for the further development of facilities at Trentham Recreation Reserve, which have been neglected by all levels of government for too long, and are amongst the poorer facilities in the game.”
Ward added “The MCDFNL worked with the Trentham FNC to make sure that the inaugural event in 2010 was a success, and all that attended today would be thrilled by the standard of football and netball on offer. There was a big crowd in attendance, which enjoyed a carnival like atmosphere and it was perfect lead in to the 2010 season. Whilst I am an impartial observer, I don’t think anyone would begrudge the Trentham FNC their success today, and hopefully the Trentham community can get behind their club as they enter the 2010 season and attempt to turn their Trentham Cup success into premiership success in the 2010 Bendigo Bank MCDFNL season”.

Trentham FNC President Rod Hassett said “The Trentham FNC are thrilled by the success of today’s event. We have themed 2010 as a “new beginning” and we hope that today’s success will give our players and supporters confidence going into 2010, and that former players and locals in the Trentham community take confidence from today’s win and get behind us in the season ahead. We thank the Ballarat Leagues Club and the MCDFNL for their support of today’s event, and we hope that the MCDFNL can consider using the concept of this inaugural event as a blueprint to make it an annual event that will give those clubs in need of assistance a real impetus for the season ahead. Whilst many will consider today to be a practice match, today’s results show that the Trentham FNC is serious about turning our fortunes around. We have a Coach and playing group committed to improving the on field results around for the Trentham FNC, and we look forward to working with the Hepburn Shire Council and the MCDFNL to ensure that the off field facility improvements needed to ensure that the Trentham FNC survives and that we have a viable future do occur.”
