The Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association is thrilled to advise that a record crowd of 220 witnessed the following people scoop the Awards at the 2009 Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association’s Peter Smith Memorial Medal last night at a lavish reception at the Ballarat Leagues Club.
C GRADE NETBALL BEST & FAIREST
Ø 1st – Maureen Mason – Natte Bealiba FNC
Ø 2nd – Tenielle Wilkinson – Navarre FNC
Ø 2nd – Melissa Sandlant – Lexton FNC
Maureen Mason has capped off a fantastic season in winning the C Grade Netball best and fairest. Maureen is a popular player in the competition, who shows great determination, quick hands and agility. As well as the Under 12 and Under 14 Coach at Natte Bealiba, Maureen managed to excel in the second half of the season. She shows great leadership both on and off the court and is player that gives her best every time she takes to the court. We congratulate Maureen on a fantastic season.

A stand out player, Olivia Lockhart has enjoyed an incredible season in the LPFLNA Reserves Netball competition. Olivia is a very accomplished player who use’s her strong hands to her advantage. An extremely accurate shooter, Olivia has been able to apply scoreboard pressure to her opponents and give Lexton a comfortable lead on most occasions. Olivia is well respected at Lexton and a deserving winner of this award.

Scott has had a fantastic season with the Rokewood Corindhap FC. Scott is a very versatile player who kicked the odd goal when needed. Scott is a much respected player at the Rokewood Corindhap FC and is looked upon as a genuine leader around the club. His side is still in the running for this years premiership and we wish him the best of luck for the rest of the finals campaign. We congratulate Scott on winning the 2009 Ray Bibby Medal.

Ø 1st – Brendan Partridge – Skipton FNC – 64 Goals
Brendan has capped off a brilliant year up forward for the Skipton FC, taking out the Reserve leading goal kicker award. Brendan kicked 64 goals out of just 13 Reserve games in the Home & Away season. Brendan is a strong mark up forward for the Emus. Brendan will also be looking forward to this years finals campaign and leading his side to a much desired premiership with his accurate kicking. We Congratulate Brendan on a well deserved honour.

Ingrid is a superb all-round Netballer for the Natte Bealiba FNC and takes out this prestigious award for the first time. Ingrid has been adaptable in playing both Defence and Attack throughout the season. Her athleticism and superior judgment allowed her to always be in the play and provide the perfect link in moving the ball up the court. Her accuracy while in goals was a feature of her play also. Ingrid is well respected at Natte, a tremendous team player who gives her all. We congratulate Ingrid on this achievement.

For the 1st time ever, the Lexton Plains FL will present a “Rookie of the Year Award”. The following criteria was applied to this award –
Each clubs in the league were asked to nominate 1 player from their club.
Nominated player must be no older than 19 on or before December 31st 2009.
Nominated player must have played 5 Senior football matches during the 2009 season.
Nominated player must not have been found guilty of any offence during the 2009 season.
All clubs vote 3-2-1 on the list of nominated players, with clubs unable to vote for their own player.

Ø 1st place – Louis Hannett – Navarre FNC
Ø 1st place – Aiden Bell – Ararat Eagles FNC
Both leading Junior players, Aiden and Louis have progressed to influential and damaging senior players. Both players represented the LPFLNA against the MCDFNL at Inter league with distinction, Louis in the Senior’s and Aiden in the Under 19’s. Aiden is the spark at the Ararat Eagles, his uncanny sense of where the goals are and clean disposal set up the victories that the Eagles enjoyed this season. Louis is part of the Navarre star midfield. His ability to win his own ball and make sharp decisions with it has allowed Navarre to climb the ladder this year. Louis display’s great evasiveness and awareness, always finding space where none seems to exist, a trait that Aiden shares, especially around goals.
Tanya Daniels The Good Guys Senior Grade Leading Goal Kicker
Ø 1st – Thomas Mullane-Grant – Rokewood Corindhap FNC – 74 Goals
Ø 2nd – Samuel Robertson – Navarre FNC – 60 Goals
Ø 3rd – Keirnan Molloy – Skipton FNC – 51 Goals
Tom takes out this prestigious award in his first season in the League. Despite a leg injury that kept him out from Round 11 onwards, Tom was a prolific goal kicker for the Grasshoppers who was on track to boot a ton. Tom is Rokewood Corindhap’s playing coach, a natural leader who leads by example. His impact on the scoreboard was significant in the grasshoppers early season form and his instruction and direction a major influence on their run home. A two time winner of the GDFL goal kicking award, Tom adds this award to his outstanding list of achievements.

Jason is the joint coach of Carngham Linton FNC. Jason has capped off a brilliant season within the Lexton Plains Football League in winning the 2009 Peter Smith Memorial Medal. Jason is a superb athlete and his hard running and contested ball winning ability, along with his ability to read the play has made him difficult player to match up on. Jason has played through the midfield for the Carngham Linton FNC this year, with some time spent forward where he has proved just as damaging. He also captained the victorious LPFLNA in Interleague Football in 2009, being one of the better players on the day. An exceptional player, and his first year back in the league, Jason takes out the 2009 Peter Smith Memorial Medal.
