The Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association would like to announce that the League and the Carngham Linton FNC have reached agreement on the sanctions that will be applied the Carngham Linton Football Netball Club player that was involved in an incident with the Coach of the Rokewood-Corindhap Football Netball Club Tom Mullane-Grant on Sunday night 6th September 2009 at a Ballarat nightclub.
The Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association wish to clarify earlier media reports that stated the League was considering “booting out” the Carngham Linton FNC from the Lexton Plains FL&NA.
This option was never considered and would not be considered by the League. This subject was raised by a reporter and the League did believe it had been dismissed as an option, and the League was frustrated in the manner in which it was reported. The Lexton Plains FL&NA acknowledge that the manner in which this was reported caused grief and frustration for the members of the Carngham Linton FNC and the league do apologise for the frustration that resulted.
The Lexton Plains FL&NA acknowledge that the Carngham Linton Football Netball Club is a professional, proud, successful and family orientated football club with a proud history and consider them a very highly regarded and important member of the Lexton Plains FL&NA.
Importantly, it should be stressed that the Lexton Plains FL&NA and the Carngham Linton FNC do not condone violence or aggressive behaviour in any form, and condemn any acts of violence.
The Lexton Plains FL&NA and the Carngham Linton FNC have agreed that the Carngham Linton FNC player involved in the incident with the Rokewood-Corindhap Football Netball Club Coach Tom Mullane-Grant and will face the following sanctions:
- The player will be removed from his position as Captain of the club for the 2010 season. As this an extremely highly valued role by the player and within the club it is a great disappointment to him personally, however he acknowledges the need for the club and the league to take this action to ensure that a strong message is sent to all Carngham Linton FNC players (and players throughout the league) that such acts are unacceptable.
- The player will serve a 2 week on field playing suspension, and as such he will be unavailable for his clubs 1st 2 home & away games in 2010. This penalty will be entered into his tribunal history and registered as “misconduct”.
- The player together with other Carngham Linton FNC club officials will seek a meeting with Rokewood-Corindhap Football Netball Club Coach officials and their Coach Tom Mullane-Grant to personally apologise for the actions and consequences of incident.
- The existing Carngham Linton FNC Code of Conduct will be strengthened to address the responsibilities of players, officials & members where they bring the club and/or LPFNL into disrepute even outside of the club environment.
- Look to have the player and other club players and officials attend appropriate sanctioned courses including binge drinking at the earliest opportunity before or during the 2010 season.
The Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association appreciate that this has been a regretful incident for all parties involved, and commend the swift and decisive action taken by the Carngham Linton FNC to ensure that members of their club and the football community understand that violent and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated in any, shape or form.
The Lexton Plains Football League & Netball Association also wish to express our best wishes to Rokewood-Corindhap Football Netball Club Coach Tom Mullane-Grant in his recovery, and express our full and unconditional support for him.
