The Speed Field Days Mallee Football League was lucky with some warm weather and some great games of football to start off the season.
Walpeup/Underbool Vs Beulah
It was a good tussle between Walpeup/Underbool and Beulah with the first quarter seeing the Blues get an 11 point lead over the Roos. The second term lifted with intensity. Walpeup/Underbool kicked 5 goals 3 to Beulah 3 goals 2. The half time score was the Roos 6 goals 4 to the Blues 6 goals 2. The third term saw Walpeup/ Underbool break out in front kicking 5 goals 4 against Beulah 3 goals 2. The last quarter was a real arm wrestle with Beulah trying so hard to come back. They kicked 6 goals to the Roos 5 goals 2. The final score saw the Roos win 16 goals 10 (106) to the Blues 15 goals 4 (94). Nick Malinovski kicked 5 goals for Walpeup/ Underbool in his return to the club. Travis Latta, Josh Stone and Mick Palmer all contributed to the win. BeulahâÂÂs Timothy Hill played well for the club getting their Best. Tom Hallam, Clayton Shannon and Kim Hallam worked hard all 4 quarters. Jarred Combe kicked 6 goals for Beulah.
Ouyen United Vs Woomelang/Lascelles
Hosts Ouyen United got away to a good start in the first term. With a 5 goal lead, they were beating Woomelang/Lascelles 8 goals 1 to 3 goals 2. The explosive second term saw the Demons get another 10 goals and 3 points on the board to Woomelang/Lascelles 2 goals 1. At half time Ouyen United were winning 18 goals 4 to 5 goals 3. The third quarter saw Catsâ defence hold up strongly against the Demons. The Cats won the quarter 4 goals 3 to the Demons 3 goals 2. The last quarter saw Ouyen United too good as they exploded again putting 8 goals 7 on the board against Woomelang/Lascelles 2 goals 1. The end result was Demons 29 goals 13 (187) beating Woomelang Lascelles 11 goals 7 (73). Jacob Anstey showed his class with a best on performance for Ouyen United. The match saw Coach Danny OâÂÂShannessy kick a massive 9 goals. Adam OâÂÂCallaghan and Danny OâÂÂBree were very good up forward amid a very strong team performance. The Cats tried very hard all day and Todd Beasy showed a lot of leadership to be his teams best. Nathan Gregor and Royce Free work very hard for the ball and Ryan Tierney work hard down forward line kicking 4 goals.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers Vs Hopetoun
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers were at home to Hopetoun. The Tigers got away to a good start in the first term kicking 5 goals 4 to the DevilâÂÂs 1 point. The second quarter saw both teams struggling to put a score on the board with Hopetoun getting 1 goal 1 to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers getting 4 points. At half time the score was Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers 5 goals 8 to Hopetoun 1 goal 2. The third term saw Hopetoun come back kicking 5 goals against the Tigers who kicked 3 goals. The last quarter saw Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers get away kicking another 4 goals and 7 behinds against Hopetoun who kick 1 goal and 4 behinds. The final score was Tigers 12 goals 15 (87) to Devils 7 goals 6 (48). Tigersâ Craig Sutton defended strongly for the whole 4 quarters and received great support and run through the midfield from Bill Barry, Karl Bibby and Matt Elliott who kicked 3 goals for his team. HopetounâÂÂs Steve Hallam defended solidly. Clint Castleman was strong up forward kicking 3 goals for the club. The team had good support from Leigh Hutchinson and Cade Wellington.
Next week is the short round with only two matches on. As Anzac Day is on Saturday, all games will be played on Sunday.
