The Speed Field Days Mallee Football League had some exciting games this week with all contenders putting up a good fight.
Walpeup/Underbool Vs Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers had a good win when they played away at Underbool. The Tigers started with a great first quarter. They led 4 goals and 3 points to the Roos 3 points. The second quarter was a battle for both sides. Walpeup/Underbool were strong this quarter kicking 5 goals to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers 4 goals and 1 point. The Roos continued their form into the third quarter closing in on the Tigers. The third quarter ended with Walpeup/Underbool kicking 3 goals and 4 points to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers 1 goal and 2 points. The last quarter was anyone’s game. The lead changed from side to side until the Tigers got away. They booted 7 goals and 4 points to the Roos 2 goals and 2 points. The final score was Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers 16 goals and 10 points defeated Walpeup/Underbool 10 goals and 9 points. The Tigers’ Bill Barry was outstanding once again. Luke Martin and Terry Cox were strong in the backline and Crag Sutton was a handy on-baller. Matt Brown worked hard down forward for the Roos. Ross Stone was a strong defender and Mick Pole and Darren Latta worked hard all day.
Jeparit/Rainbow Vs Ouyen United
Ouyen United had a close call on Saturday only just winning their match against Jeparit/Rainbow. The Lakers had a strong start in the first quarter kicking 6 goals and 2 points to the Demons 2 goals. Jeparit/Rainbow kept their lead in the second quarter as Ouyen United kicked 4 goals and 6 points to the Lakers 2 goals and 2 points. The third quarter was tough. Both teams were fighting hard. They both kicked 5 goals and 2 points. Ouyen United came flying home in the last quarter. They booted 6 goals to Jeparit/Rainbow’s 2 points. In the end Ouyen United won the game 17 goals and 8 points to Jeparit/Rainbow 13 goals and 8 points. Ouyen United’s Damien Hall was a strong competitor all day. Wayne Grace kicked 5 goals for the Demons, Brenton Jardine contributed well and Jacob Anstey also kicked 5 goals for the Demons. The Lakers’ Luke Werner was a star player for the side. Benjamin Jochinke kicked a massive 6 goals for his team and Heath and Ash Clugston worked hard all day.
Hopetoun Vs Woomelang/Lascelles
Hopetoun had a steady win at home against Woomelang/Lascelles on Saturday. The first quarter saw the Devils get a short lead on the Cats. It was very low scoring by both teams. Hopetoun led 2 goals and 4 points to Woomelang/Lascelles 1 goals and 2 points. The second quarter had the cats fighting back to even lead at the end of the term. They led with a half time score of 4 goals and 10 points to the Devils 4 goals and 8 points. Hopetoun caught back their lead kicking 2 goals and 6 points to Woomelang/Lascelles 1 goal. The last quarter was strong by the Devils as they kicked another 4 goals and 6 points to the Cats 1 goal and 3 points. Hopetoun won the match 10 goals and 20 points to Woomelang/Lascelles 6 goals and 13 points. The Devils’ Leigh Hutchinson continues to be in Hopetoun’s best week after week. Owen Hone, Liam Price and Tyler Saunders also played well. The Cats’ Royce Free worked hard all day along with Dean Murray, Joel Donnan and Tony Mudge.
