The 2012 Bendigo Bank MCDFNL Season will commence on Easter Saturday as part of a newly created fixture. All 14 clubs were asked to submit requests to the league and the draft fixture reviewed by all clubs prior to the AGM. In one of the season highlights, Maldon will take on a revitalised Campbell’s Creek as part of the Maldon Easter fair on Saturday 7th April.
The MCDFNL has included some Saturday night matches, as well as one home and one away Sunday match for each club. Last season’s Grand Finalists, Natte Bealiba and Navarre will have to wait until the Queens Birthday weekend (9-10 June) to do battle whilst nearby rivals Talbot and Carisbrook have also been earmarked for a Queens Birthday clash.
The 14 clubs voted on the day of the Grand Final with a majority voting on keeping the biggest day on the MCDFNL calendar to a Sunday. The finals will commence on the 1st of September, with the Grand Final being played on the 23rd September, a day after both the Ballarat Football League and Bendigo Football League Grand Finals.
MCDFNL Operations Manager Toby Boyle said “The fixture was created with giving every club a chance to voice their ideal scenarios. We are confident that we have given all clubs a positive fixture”. Toby added “It’s near on impossible to give every request to every club, however we factored in all the clubs’ best interests and that of the league. We wish to promote the league as best as possible”.
The annual season launch fixture at Princes Park has been removed due to a major event being held in Maryborough on the same weekend at the venue. The league will celebrate the launch of the season with a special guest speaker at the Maryborough Highland Society on the 13th April.
The final eight system will be retained along with the MCDFNL’s entry into the 2012 VCFL Country Championships. The MCDFNL will take on Horsham District FNL in 3 grades of Football and 4 grades of Netball at Princes Park on Sunday 27th May.
