A bright pink football will be replacing the traditional red one in Pink Footy day matches at WOODSIDE as a show of support for women with breast cancer in rural and regional Victoria.
The Woodside Recreation Reserve will be awash with pink this weekend when the Wildcats meet the winless COWWARR Saints.
Set for another tough assignment the Saints backline will again be under immense pressure as they look to contain the Wildcats potent forwards.
Last week it was Clint Staley that provided the focal point in front of goals while in previous weekâs brother Justin has caused headaches for the opposition backline.
While the Saints defenders will be stretched, the visitors will be hopeful for a strong performance from their forwards as they look to cause one of the upsets of the season.
AFTER pushing Boisdale last week, STRATFORD comes up against SALE CITY, a side hoping to establish its credentials as a finals contender.
Eager to get back onto the field injured City coach Nick Hider is under no illusions as to the challenge that awaits his side on Saturday.
âIt will be a big challenge this week against Stratford, we were on top of the ladder two weeks ago and now have fallen away outside the five.
âItâs an important game for both sides to stay in contact with the top five, thereâs no doubt both teams will be looking for the win.
âWe donât want to fall too far behind as it will make the possibility of playing finals very hard, our main focus is to get over Stratford this week.â
Blooding a number of juniors into the side in past weeks, Hider has been pleased with their efforts.
âWe have promoted a number of juniors in past weeks, we had three 17 year olds play against Woodside. The games getting quicker and the kids go well with their pace.
âOur focus has been on rewarding the guys that are working hard and giving their all at training. Where not necessarily playing our best 21 but making sure that we reward those that put in on the track,â said Hider.
The clubs new recruits have also settled well into the side, proving in the opening rounds that they have been great acquisitions adding to Cityâs depth.
While the side has added great depth to their playing list Hider will be looking for continued consistency.
âWe have been inconsistent in games, playing well for nearly a quarter and then dropping off.
âWe played well for two and half quarters on Saturday, full credit to Woodside though who didnât let us play our game,â he said.
Reigning premiers CHURCHILL were taught a football lesson last Saturday and will be eager to regain focus with a return to the winners list against ROSEDALE.
Outplayed throughout the course of the match the Cougars looked a shadow of their best as the side was convincingly beaten by lesser ranked TTU.
The Blues however recorded their third win of the season, the win ensuring Rosedale keeps in touch with the top five sitting outside in sixth position.
Rosedale have had mixed results over the past weeks loosing to TTU before claiming the points last week against Glengarry.
The Blues will be eager to get the points either side of the bye against quality opposition, with Woodside their opponent in round eight.
A win against the reigning premiers set to ignite their season as they look to break clear of the log jam on the premiership standings.
HEYFIELD senior and reserves footballers will take to the field in the Newry guernsey in their clash against BOISDALE on Saturday.
The concept is an initiative by the Kangaroos following numerous comments from former Newry players and supporters expressing that it was terrific to see the club colours running around during a Heyfield practice match.
The clash against Boisdale was chosen by Heyfield due to the rivalry the Bombers and Newry had over a number of decades.
The rivalry between Heyfield and Boisdale also came to life last season the two sides contesting two classic matches.
The Bombers claiming the honours in their first encounter by two points while Heyfield won their round 18 clash, before knocking Boisdale out of the finals.
The top of the table clash will prove the victors season credentials with both sides set to meet their biggest test to date.
Boisdale will go into the match with a depleted list. The Bomberâs depth will be put to a crucial test against ladder leaders Heyfield, the Bombers missing a number of players through injury and availability.
While the Bombers have been able to fill the void left by a number of players among them the Forsyth brothers Matt and Lee, the side will be stretched against the Kangaroos.
Heyfield has a chance to make a bold statement to the rest of the competition as they look to make it four in a row against a top three opponent.
GORMANDALE and GLENGARRY are already playing for their seasons in the Mothers Day clash at Gormandale.
Or at least that is what the ladder would suggest as the Tigers (tenth) face off against eighth-placed Glengarry.
Winless after four games is not a good record, but when you consider those games were against Churchill, Woodside and Heyfield, it is probably not as disastrous as things might appear.
A win is of utmost importance on Sunday though, particularly when it is the Tigers second home game in a row.
While a finals appearance seems a long way off for both sides that featured prominently in last years final series the game will not be lacking.
Only 22 kilometres apart, the two towns boast a footballing rivalry every bit as fierce as Carlton and Collingwood which dates back to the eighties.
The rivalry between Glengarry and Gormandale stems across two decades the two sides contesting seven senior grand finals.
The focus for both clubs coaches this week will be solely on the four points as they look to get their season back on track.
