BMG Return to Play 2022

Good morning Basketball Mount Gambier members,

BMG hopes you had a wonderful Christmas and new year’s period!

Covid has now well and truly hit our community, and the climate has changed since the conclusion of our competitions last year. We’ve been provided protocols and the plan for return to play by SA Country and Basketball SA.

BMG will be resuming competitions next week on Monday the 31st of January.

For game times and schedules please visit the Gameday website or app.

Please follow this link to read the current covid protocols by BSA, which SAC and BMG are following:

Key points specific to BMG:

  • A limit of 3 spectators per player
  • Entry to both players and spectators will be permitted 15 mins prior to your games scheduled start time
  • Masks are required at indoor competitions.
  • Complete the QR code or manual sign-in on entry.
  • Sanitise hands on entry and exit
  • At all times maintain social distancing where possible and do not congregate in groups, particularly during game cross-over periods.
  • Leave promptly at the conclusion of your game or training session and/or after the post-game discussion with your coach.

Please read the following excerpt regarding basketball close contacts:

What if a player is later confirmed as a positive covid-19 case?

Of particular relevance in the basketball setting is the following criteria for a close contact (as well as all other criteria as outlined on the close contact page of the SA Health website:

  • A close contact is someone who has had close personal interaction with a person with COVID-19 during their infectious period:
    • for 15 minutes or more and
    • where masks are not worn by the person and the COVID-19 case and
    • in close physical proximity and
    • in an indoor setting

In line with SA Health guidelines and discussions with SA Health representatives, where a player is later confirmed as returning a positive covid-19 test result:

    • all players and coaches who participated in that game or practice session without a mask are deemed to be close contacts.
    • referee does not meet the criteria for a close contact based on not being in “close physical proximity” to any one player for more than 15mins.
    • The opposition coach of a covid-19 positive player would also not be deemed to be a close contact.
    • If coaches wear masks, they would not be deemed close contacts

The health and safety of our Basketball community is our priority, and we respect that everyone’s circumstances will be unique as COVID becomes more prevalent in our community.
