The hooter went and Auckland’s #8 scored their first touchdown of the game with their first set of 6. Auckland appeared very composed and structured as they made good yards down the field.
Counties Manukau were close to getting their first score through #10, who scooped the ball from dummy half and broke the line, but Auckland’s defence scrambled to cover a gap and the charge for a touchdown reply was denied.
Auckland proceeded to take a formidable attacking stance with good driving and yardage gained to gain good attacking position. Quick touchdowns in concession to Auckland’s #9 and #16 followed and they looked comfortable up 3-0.
Counties’ reply came in the later stage of the first half through #6 and they were back in the hunt.
The second half saw Auckland continue to follow a structured game plan with hard and fast yards getting them down to the try line within 3-4 touches.
Auckland scored 2 consecutive touchdowns in a row to bring the score to 5-1. Counties Manukau #12 crossed the line following a good long ball pass out to the wing and Auckland was unable to cover the distance to stop the try and stop Counties from getting back into the match.
Auckland scored the remaining 4 touchdowns in the game through good team work and structured play to comfortably win 9-2.
