Auckland and Bay of Plenty lined up for the first game of the day with Auckland having two wins and a loss from Day 1’s games and Bay of Plenty having two wins and a draw. Both teams took the field with a determined look on their faces.
Bay of Plenty were first to score with a touchdown to #3 Stevie Wall, the try was set up with good work from #6 Sean McKain. Auckland were quick to reply with a low diving touchdown scored between two defenders by #3 Wiremu . The seesaw of touchdowns commenced, it was try for try, each team not giving an inch.
By half time the score was 6-5 to BOP. First half touchdowns to Bay of Plenty were made by #5 McCauky, #15 Hahipene, #13 Ryan, #14 Hodson and two to captain Stevie Wall. Auckland’s touchdowns were made by #8 Amiria, two to both #3 Neho and #2 Repia.
The second half commenced at a fast pace. Bay of Plenty #14 Mark Hodgson took first blood taking his side to a margin of 2 with scoreline of 7-5. Auckland responded with a touchdown to captain Derrick Lalotoa. From the tap-off Bay of Plenty made good yards and a touchdown was set up by #6 Sean Mckain with a beautiful longball to the winger and a touchdown.
Auckland organised for a counter attack scoring 2 touchdowns in a row to #3 Neho and #9 Marsters. The scoreline was even-stevens at 8-8. The touchdown for touchdown response continued until the end of the game with the final score of 12-12.
