Finals Review 2nd Semi

Season 20/21 has been a short & interrupted competition since starting last November but no one's complaining as it's been great to get the juniors back on court & playing basketball again after a long break without sport.

This week sees the start of finals for the juniors domestic competition as the 2nd semi's were played Tuesday  where there were excited & determined players and cheering & proud spectators in the stadium once again.

Under 12 Boys - Trotters 19 defeated Rebels 17

In a tightly contested game throughout, Trotters led by Charlie Blake scoring 12 and Jarra Kelly with 4 - were able to hold onto a 2 point win over Rebels. Both teams matched up quite well against each other and all played with lots of skill to try and get the win to go straight into the grand final next week. Jedd Morris was best and the top scorer for Rebels with 11 and Mason Forster shot 4 points.

Under 14 Boys - Swans 35 defeated Tigers 33

Wow!! what a great game and our first overtime game for the finals series with Swans ahead by 2 in O/T. Bohdi Kelly (17 points) and Murndarr McInnes (12 points) together scored the bulk of the Swans score at a high percentage from the perimeter as Tigers Seamus Doherty & Jobe Roberts were able to block any shots taken in the paint. Tigers were patient & found the open players in offence however it wasn't quite enough to win the game.  Seamus Doherty played well & was top scorer for Tigers with 23.

Under 16 Boys - Rebels 41 defeated Saints 39

The U16 boys was another close encounter where we saw the 2nd semi decided by 2 points yet again in the boys competition. After a slow start by both teams in a low scoring first half, Rebels player Xavier Sherlock stepped up his defence and had a creative impact at the offensive end. In an even contest across both teams, players were able to make the open layups but the pressured finishing around the basket wasn't at the same level. Wil Bennett was best top scoring with 15 points & Billy O'Toole played very well hitting 7 points for Saints. Darcy Butler & Koby McMillan both finished with 8 points for the winning Rebels team.

Under 19 Boys - Untouchables 41 defeated Rebels 33

After a slow start Rebels trailed for most of the game due to the Untouchables players Sam Bull and Ryan Domaille. Sam worked hard at both ends finishing the game with 16 points while Ryan controlled any rebounds that came his way. Liam Drummond applied scoreboard pressure after hitting a couple of timely 3 pointers but whenever Rebels scored to bridge the gap, Untouchables found a way to convert at the other end. Harry McGregor led the Rebels with 16 points with Ruan & Mark Drotsky both finishing with 5 each. Untouchables will now wait to see who they will meet in the Grand Final next week.

Under 12 Girls - Tigers 31 defeated Rebels 16

The Brooks girls came out firing to help the Tigers take the win over Rebels in the 12 girls comp. Both Lana (12 points) & Zoe (6 points) are busy players and they set the tempo in this final and all team mates followed. Ruby Ryan played well scoring 10 of the 16 points before fouling out and the Rebels girls tried hard but Tigers had too many scoring options.

Under 14 Girls - Swans 55 defeated Rebels 34

A 21 point win secures a grand final berth for the Swans U14 girls. Even though the Rebels players effort was always present, it was the run & gun game of Jayda Plant that was the difference between the two teams. This running of layups put Swans in charge early in the game with Jayda top scoring with 41 points from her dominate right hand layups. Indi Grey led all scorers for Rebels with 22 points and they will now need to regroup & play off in the prelim final Thursday to find their way into the grand final next week.
