Premiers 2019 2020

A decision to change Season 2019 2020 competition dates this year has seen the end of the SHBA domestic finals a week before Basketball Victoria has postponed all basketball activity until further notice due to the current COVID-19 situation. Our reasoning behind the early finish this season was to still play the same amount of games but finish in early March so families had a decent break before the football & netball season started in Swan Hill. How lucky we were to complete our season!

The finals series ran over two weeks and some exciting games for teams to claim the title of SHBA Premiers 2019 2020.

Under 12 Girls Trotters 39 defeated Rebels 36

This game was a game of two halves - the first belonging to the Rebels team with Scarlet Grey dominating the scoring, and the second half where a tenacious Trotters unit applied full court pressure to over run the opposition by 3 points. The atmosphere was full of typical finals excitment with the crowd cheering on every possession. Foul trouble, foul shots made and determination were all factors in the final result. Rebels Scarlet Grey finished with 28 points & Trotters Prue O'Sullivan scored 14, Chloe Meehan 12, Emiliy Polkinghorn 7.

League MVP - Scarlet Grey Runner Up MVP Clancy Devlin

Under 12 Boys Trotters 68 defeated Swans 47

This boys game was played with lots of pace with the Trotters team continuing to run it out to the final siren. A fine display of 1 v 1 offensive skills with Bryce Anderson, Chad O'Sullivan & Max Thompson running the floor & penetrating to score lapup after layup. Trotters anticipation to intercept was impressive at times and Swans Bryce Anderson effort in rebounding was second to none. Top scorers for Trotters :- Max Thompson 32, Chad O'Sullivan 31 Swans:- Bryce Anderson 39

League MVP - Max Thompson Runner Up MVP Bryce Anderson

SHBA Best Free Thow Scorer for Season 2019 2020 - Chad O'Sullivan

Under 14 Girls Swans 45 defeated Speewa 43

What a close finish that had everything a final can throw at you throughout the game. A slow nervous start from Swans with a few early turnovers helped Speewa take control leading 23 to 14 at half time. In the first half Speewa were able to string baskets together getting short runs of 6 points at a time before 2 points from Swans stopped these runs. After half time everything changed with Ava O'Brien coming out firing 14 second half points of her 16 for the game. Montana Davies also began creating plays & finding ways to score & steal to win. Top scorers:- Swans Montana Davies 25, Ava O'Brien 16  Speewa Jayda Plant 21, M Meney 10

League MVP - Ava Crow Runner Up MVP Montana Davies

Under 14 Boys Speewa 67 defeated Fireflys 53

The Speewa team were in front most of the game - all but the starting 4 minutes of the U14 final. However, the Fireflys team keep throwing challenges at Speewa and with 13 minutes to go the score was 40 / 41 Speewa's way. Lachlan Vrolijks had a vital 6 minute spurt of 10 points and Patrick Blake continued his great finals form to keep in touch  It was Speewa's Wil Bennett who seemed to stop any charge making good plays for himself & team mates when it counted. Top Scorers:- Speewa Wil Bennet 32, Kai Everett 22 Fireflys Patrict Blake 32, Ned Ayson 10.

League MVP - Seamus Doherty Runner Up MVP Wil Bennett

Under 16 Girls Untouchables 64 defeated Saints 39

Untouchables were the favourites and won this final quite convincingly. Both teams came ready to play and all girls contributed throughout which was pleasing to see. Arlee Bennett played her usual great U16 game & led all scorers with 39 and had good support from Jenna Bannam 11 & Scarlet Sheldrick 10. The Saints team tried hard but just weren't as consistent as their opposition with Milla Holt top scoring with 20 points.

League MVP - Zoe Steicke Runner Up MVP Arlee Bennett

Under 16 Boys Rebels 52 defeated Trotters 44

The Rebels team were on the front foot right from the start of the U16 Boys Grand Final and didn't look back. With all Rebels players contributing to the win in offence & defence it was a great day for domestic basketball. Harry McGregor & Jude Seymour were solid contributors for Rebels, Nick Taylor & Fraser Colville played well for Trotters.

League MVP - Ruan Drotsky Runner Up MVP Mitch Uhlhorn

Under 19 Girls Saints 55 defeated Trotters 36

An even spread of rebounding & scoring power saw the Saints team win the U19 girls by 19 points. The game was quite close throughout but late in the second half Saints piled on 12 unanswered points to widen the gap. Trotters tried hard to contain Saints offense but when required Saints had more options around the basket. Saints had 4 scorers with double figures - Remi Bennett 16, Meg Rooney 11, Jemma Pryor & Molly Brown 10  & Trotters top scorers were Amy Jobling 13, Ruby Kelly-Guthrie 10, Maddy Davies 8.

League MVP - Tash Kelly Runner Up MVP Molly Brown

Under 19 Boys Saints 101 defeated Tigers 95

The U19 boys was a spectators dream. It was a game of skill, flare & scoring lots of points. Both teams were able to rotate their players freely as the style of play from coast to coast was played at pace for most of the game. Both teams had players that stepped up that don't feature on a stats sheet but they did their jobs the coaches need & the teams appreciate. Nyawi Moore's uncanny skills & quick hand were unbelievable & Matty Gardner's variety of scores kept the crowd entertained. Henry Thompson was fantastic getting to the basket with ease & finishing off at the foul line.

League MVP - Nyawi Moore Runner Up MVP Matty Gardner
