NEWS: Geelong's GRFC Rep Squads seeking more Junior girls

ONCE again the junior players in Geelong will have the opportunity to represent the region in the upcoming CLFA Regional Country Championships to be held in Bendigo over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. It has been three years since Geelong entered boys teams into the tournament, whilst the girls have had a two year break.

The introduction of the National Premier League for Junior Boys and more recently the Women’s version has provided a fantastic showcase for the talented players in the region with North Geelong Warriors and Geelong Galaxy United providing opportunities to compete at this elite level.

However, there is a huge number of skilful players who have missed out on positions within these squads so the RCC provides a chance for these players to play at a reasonably high level in a quality tournament.

The tournament also offers the opportunity for coach and referee development as well as being a great fun weekend away for all the participating families.

Recently the delegates of all the Geelong Region clubs voted to permit the local coaching partnership team of Mike Chapman and Pete Bradley (GOFC Football Coaching)  to administer the Geelong representative squads on their behalf.

Geelong will be aiming to enter six teams in this year’s tournament,   U12 – U14 – U16 Boys and U12 – U14 – U16 Girls.

Coaches have been selected and include a number of local coaches who have just completed the recent AFC ‘C licence’ course in Geelong.

Expressions of interests are now being received for the upcoming  trials which will take place the week of April 18th and any player registered in 2016 with a local GRFC based club can apply.

Interest has been great for the Boys teams with over 60 kids from nine of the local community clubs registered.

Unfortunately, numbers for the girls teams are still low and more girls are required in order to be able to have the minimum numbers to submit a team.
