NEWS: Geelong Region Men’s Div 1 strugglers to kick off Round 17 tonight

ROUND 16 of the Geelong Region Men’s Division 1 will kick off on Friday night (tonight) under lights as struggling Barwon Heads hosts Drysdale SC at Village Park in Barwon Heads.

The home team has only accumulated seven points so far this season and currently sits second last on the table, while Drysdale is third last but are eight points clear of the Hammerheads.

Barwon Heads has lost its last five games while Drysdale has lost three and drawn two in their last five outings.

On Sunday afternoon, Breakwater Eagles are set to take on Surf Coast at Banyul Warri Reserve in Torquay in what is expected to be a tough match for the visitors.

Surf Coast has won three, lost one and drawn one of its last five matches while Breakwater has lost four and drawn one of its last five games.

As the league table stands, Surf Coast is in third spot with 28 points while Breakwater is last with a total of just two points.

At Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus, Deakin Ducks will host second placed Surfside Waves.

The Waves have lost their last two games and will be looking to get back to winning ways this week and maintain their place in second spot. Deakin has won one and drawn one of its last two games.

The Ducks are currently 6th on the league table going into Round 16 and are on level points with Barwon, who are above the Ducks due to a superior goal difference.

Fifth placed Barwon will take on seventh placed Lara United at Grovedale Reserve.

Barwon has shown a good run of form in its last five games, winning four and drawing one. Lara’s last five games, meanwhile, have seen the Navy Blues come out with three draws, a loss and a win.

In the final match of the round, table toppers Rangers will host Corio at Myers Reserve in an important fixture for the home team who will hope to maintain their five-point advantage at the summit over second placed Surfside.

The last time the two sides played, the Rangers were victorious with a 3-0 scoreline.

All the Sunday games will kick off at 3pm, while tonight’s match is scheduled for an 8:30pm kick off.
