SECOND place in the Geelong Region Women’s Division 1 competition is up for grabs this weekend as third placed Barwon SC hosts second placed Deakin Ducks in Round 16 action at Grovedale Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams are on level points, with only goal difference separating them although the Ducks have a game in hand over their near neighbours.

In their last five matches, the Ducks have won four but lost their most recent game to Geelong Rangers last weekend.

Barwon’s last five games have seen them win two, draw two and were defeated last round by the resurgent Kardinia College.

Whoever wins Saturday’s showdown will find themselves clear in second spot at the end of the round.

Over at the Bell Park Sports Club, fifth placed Bell Park will host bottom of the table Surf Coast in a must win game for both sides.

Both teams will be eager to get back on the playing field after they were both forced to sit out last round due to the bye.

In its last five league encounters, Bell Park has had two byes, as well as recorded two losses and a draw.

The out of form Surf Coast has had one bye and recorded four losses during the last five rounds.

Drysdale will test itself against runaway league leaders Geelong Rangers at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct on Saturday afternoon.

It will be the culmination of a massive day at the Drysdale Sporting Precinct, which will also host the opening round of the Southern Hub matches in the inaugural genU All Abilities Geelong League earlier in the day.

Geelong Rangers has won four and had a bye over the past five rounds.

Drysdale, meanwhile, returns to the fold this week following two consecutive byes. The three games they were involved in before their enforced time off saw them draw twice and lose one of their matches.

Kardinia College will sit out this round due to the bye.
