SOCCER: An intense day of Goulburn North East Football Association fell in Tatura's favour yesterday as the Ibises qualified for the finals with a 3-1 win against Shepparton South.

But Tatura needed a big favour from Cobram, whose 3-2 win against Cobram Victory allowed the Ibises to claim fourth spot.

Brendan Johansson saved a late Nathan Thomas penalty to deny Victory a 3-3 draw, a result which would have been enough to claim fourth place on goal difference.

Tatura raced to a 3-0 lead against Shepparton South and closed out a 3-1 win to ensure it would see finals action.

Shepparton also made sure of its top four place by winning 7-1 against Kialla United at Vibert Reserve.

The Reds will appeal a penalty for misconduct at the tribunal tonight with the outcome potentially changing the match-ups for the first round of finals.

As things currently stand, Shepparton will play Tatura in the elimination final at Barooga next weekend, while Shepparton South will play Shepparton United at McEwen Reserve in the qualifying final the week after.

In the women's league, Cobram also denied Victory a spot in the finals with Tatura the benefactor.

Tatura lost 1-0 to Shepparton South to leave the door open for Victory, but Cobram denied its arch rival by winning 3-2.

The results mean the women's fixtures will be the same as the men's in the first two weeks of finals.
