Clubs need to decide

Frank Trimboli said clubs needed to make up their minds about who they wanted to administer Goulburn North East Football Association next season.

President Trimboli was frustrated following Monday night's meeting with the clubs at the contradictory nature of some, who had not endorsed his own administration, but also rejected the idea of Football Federation Victoria taking over like in Bendigo, Geelong and Sunraysia competitions.

``For them (FFV) to run a competition here in Shepparton from St Kilda Rd in Melbourne, I'm not sure if it's the best thing for the sport,'' Trimboli said.

``I'm not saying I'm against it and I'm not saying I'm for it, but at the end of the day I can't say the clubs endorse the current administration but they're not in favour of the FFV administering the competition, so I don't know what they want.

``They (the clubs) can wait until December and elect a whole new group of people to run the competition.

``But those people might come in to look after the interests of their own clubs and I think that would be very dangerous.''

Trimboli said some clubs were open to the FFV idea, so he would still invite its chief executive officer Mark Rendell to make a presentation.

``You wouldn't have that same control over the league, so some of the history will be washed away if they were to run it,'' he said.

``There's a lot for and a lot against, but I'm quite happy for the FFV to come up here and do their presentation because at the moment we're not being acknowledged for doing a good job.''

But Trimboli believed the meeting to be a success overall and said it would be followed up in the next ``couple weeks'' to finalise some of the other issues discussed.

One of them is a venue for this year's grand final after the idea of a night grand final at Deakin Reserve was rejected by the clubs.

Grounds at Cobram, Numurkah and McEwen Reserve had been finalised as venues for other finals, but Trimboli said the league would wait to see the final make-up of the top-fours across the divisions before deciding what rounds the venues would play host.
