Goulburn North East Football Association president Frank Trimboli has asked clubs to take stock of their playing ranks before the next general meeting in order to maximise the chances of expanding grades.

The league's main general meeting to iron out fixtures, grades and other competition operations will be held on a date to be confirmed within the next month.

One item sure to be debated will be what junior age groups participate in this year's league, with the option of expanding the number of grades at the heart of the debate.

A quick poll of club representatives at Monday's annual meeting gave a variety of feedback, with different clubs saying they were capable of fielding under-10 boys, under13 boys and under-16 girls among others.

The league currently caters for under-12, under-14 and under-16 boys, under-15 girls, open women, men's division two and division one.

Some clubs made the argument last season that an under-15 girls competition was too old and scaring away potential players, while Shepparton South has regularly contended that under-16 boys up to men's division two is too big a jump.

Trimboli said to make the general meeting a worthwhile affair, the club delegates in attendance had to know the numbers of players their club currently had on the books and what recruiting prospects they had across every age group.

"We've got our house in order, the league can accommodate for the clubs' needs," Trimboli said.

"There is a population out there that can play, the clubs need to do their own research on what divisions they can field.

"It's up to the clubs to agree on what divisions they can field, the league will be happy to administer more grades for them."

Benalla president Peter Gebauer marked the club down as having a men's division one team this season, but was not able to completely commit.

Gebauer told the meeting his club had two key days, its first pre-season session this month and registration day next month and could not give an answer on a division one team until then.

Kyabram will be without a men's division one team this year, while Kialla United will not be fielding any female teams in its second season.
