COBRAM CLUB APPOINTS ENGLISHMAN AS COACH AND HIS FOCUS WILL BE ON DEVELOPING LOCAL PLAYERS

Cobram Roar has appointed Adam Gatcum as head coach.

The Englishman comes into the role following a month of discussions with the steering committee, offering his expertise to the newly merged club.

Gatcum said his focus for the club would be developing players fromthe Cobram and surrounding areas.

‘‘It’s an exciting position and a new chapter for soccer in Cobram,’’ Gatcum said.

‘‘Roar will be a family club — we want to develop and use local players.

‘‘Gone are the days of recruiting from Shepparton or Melbourne and having players only stay around for a season.

‘‘We hope by developing local players, we’ll generate more people coming through the gates at games.’’

Gatcum has been involved with Cobram Victory and Cobram Soccer Club during the past five years.

During his time at Cobram, Gatcum helped coach the undefeated under-14s to the premiership and said Roar would similarly be focused on the development of junior players.

‘‘We’re looking to build some positivity around the new club and as a family club there’s an emphasis on looking after the junior teams,’’ Gatcum said.

Pre-season kicked-off for the Roar on Monday and the formation of the new club’s committee will also take place in coming weeks.

The inaugural meeting will be on Monday at 7.30 pm at the Italian Social Club.
