Shepparton News

Kialla United's flagship team has advanced to the grand final as the first-year Goulburn North East Football Association club enjoyed a 4-1 win against Shepparton in under-16s on Sunday.

Kialla dazzled Shepparton after half-time when it broke a 1-1 deadlock with high quality play and three exciting goals.

Shepparton went toe-to-toe with the reigning premier and matched Kialla initially, but now has to settle for a preliminary final against Tatura next weekend.

Division top scorer Alhashoush Abdulameer took his form into the finals with a double, while Julian Shirokaj and Razaq Al-Hamzah were Kialla's other scorers and Ahadi Lulerhe scored for the Reds.

The result was not favourable for Kialla in men's division two, however, as a late strike from Irving Hiddleston in the second half of extra-time gave Shepparton South a 3-2 win.

The teams had been level 1-1 at half-time and 2-2 at full-time before Hiddleston's second goal of the match put South through to the grand final without the need for penalties.

Daniel Nardella was South's other goal scorer, while Mohammad Alnajefee and Faiz Muftin scored for Kialla United, which now plays Cobram Victory in the preliminary final.

South also qualified for the grand final of the under-12 boys after a shock 4-1 win against previously unbeaten Shepparton.

The Reds and Southerners had drawn both their meetings in the regular season, but goals to Harry Boyd, Kyle Harris, Jayden Clarke and Mitchell Harlow put South into the grand final, while Yusuf Aykin scored for Shepparton.

The upset result went against South in the under-14s, however, as Andrew Kyriakou's goal put Shepparton United into the grand final 1-0 at the expense of the previously unbeaten Southerners.

South must now face Shepparton in the preliminary final, while Shepparton's under-12s get the double chance against Tatura.

In the junior girls, Shepparton South emphatically turned around its previous meeting against second-placed Shepparton (a 3-1 loss) by advancing to the grand final with a 4-0 win.

Jacklyn Lombardozzi scored two goals for South along with one each to Chelsea Clarke and Zoe Courtney.

Shepparton will play Cobram Victory in the preliminary final.
