Shepparton News

Shepparton has all but ensured it will play finals this season regardless of the outcome of a misconduct tribunal hearing after a 2-0 win against Cobram Victory at Barooga in men's division one.

Victory's top two chances are all but gone and its position in the top four is also on the line after Shepparton goals either side of half-time to Andy Rushbury and Duncan Whitlam decided the contest.

Victory fell to fifth on the ladder with the defeat, on 19 points level with Cobram in sixth and behind fourth-placed Tatura on 20 and third-placed Shepparton United on 21.

Shepparton by contrast is in the box seat to play finals, even if it loses three points at a misconduct tribunal set down for tomorrow.

The Reds have 25 points in second on the ladder, ahead of Shepparton United on 21 and Tatura on 20.

Shepparton has a bye next weekend and finishes the season with a clash against Kialla United.

Even if it does lose the points tomorrow and goes down to 22, Shepparton will be guaranteed at least fourth place if it beats Kialla United in the final round.

In the weekend's other men's division one match, a bag of five goals to Stuart Vance along with strikes for John Stokes and Hamish Munro gave Shepparton South a 7-1 win against Numurkah.

Denc Thuch was Numurkah's goal-scorer, but was also sent off for the third time this season.

Bouncing back

Shepparton South's junior girls have responded to their first defeat in the division with a 23-0 win against Numurkah at the weekend to bring up 100 goals for the season.

South lost 3-1 to Shepparton in round 15, but bounced back by recording one of the most lopsided results in all divisions of the association this year.

Shepparton and Shepparton South remain in a battle for the minor premiership after a 2-0 defeat for the Reds against Cobram Victory left the door open for South to take top spot with its game in hand, 37 points from 14 games behind Shepparton on 39 points from 15.

With two rounds remaining, all minor premierships are still being contested in junior grades.

Shepparton in under-12s and Kialla United's under-16s need one more win to secure top spot in their respective grades, while Shepparton South's under-14s need just a draw.
