Tigers have paws on prime berth

Shepparton News

Cobram appears set to secure an all-important top-two finish in the North Eastern Soccer League's women's competition after a 1-1 draw with Shepparton on Sunday.

The Tigers, who are above the Reds on goal-difference, put the pressure on early by scoring in the first half, before Susan Tanrikulu responded in the second half for Shepparton, but the Reds couldn't pinch another and had to share the points.

There is just one round to go in the regular season and the Tigers will retain second place with a win against cellar-dweller Kyabram, something they should do against the winless Go-annas.

Shepparton United extended its lead on top of the ladder with a comprehensive 8-0 thumping of Cobram Victory.

Jess Theobald nailed a hat-trick, Megan Carr knocked in a brace, while Holly Dimstas, Danielle Zeqir and Imogen Head also got on the scoresheet with the Blues scoring four goals in each half.

Tatura has put together back-to-back wins as it gears up for the finals, this time recording a 4-1 result against Numurkah.

The Ibises took it up to the Knights from the start and held a 2-0 lead at the main break.

Lucy Ciancio picked up a double with Mikayla Lia and Rosemary Scrimizzi adding singles, while Stacey Tomasino was the lone goal-scorer for Numurkah.

In the other match, Shepparton South took all three points against Kyabram 2-0.

The Southerners scored all of their goals in the first half, with Jacklyn Lombardozzi and Bonnie Kilmartin doing the damage, while the Knights finished the match with 10 players after Catherine Job received a second yellow card.
