South on song

Shepparton South tuned up for the finals with a 2-0 win against Cobram Victory in men's division one on Sunday.

Brendan Barton and Stevan Ilic were the goal-scorers for South as it defeated a Cobram Victory team fielding most of its regular first 11, but notably without second top goal-scorer Nick Mantovani.

Victory went into the match unable to catch Shepparton at the top of the ladder, defeat meaning the Reds took out the minor premiership with 53 points to Victory's 48.

Almost perfect

Shepparton United finished its season with 20 wins from 21 games after a 1-0 victory against Tatura on Sunday.

Allyson Newton scored in the second half to give the Blues goal number 97 for the season and a 17-point gap to second place as it took out the minor premiership.

Tatura could not move out of fourth place at the start of the match and will now play in the elimination final against Shepparton, a team eight points above it in third place.

A goal to Danielle Espagne gave Shepparton South the points in the weekend's other match, 1-0 against Cobram Victory.

The win was South's sixth of the year taking it to 21 points, not enough to claim fifth place from Victory which finished the year with 23.
