Poll on money

As we look forward to Saturday night's North Eastern Soccer League medal count, we see the poll of captains and senior players The News took at the start of the season could yet hold true.

Before round one kicked off, one player from each of the six men's division one clubs put in a prediction as to who they thought would win the league's top individual honour.

Johnny Davkovski represented Shepparton, Nazz Santoro (Cobram Victory), Jonathan Tedesco (Cobram), Jimmy Avram (Shepparton United), Luke Nardella (Shepparton South) and Carmine Conte (Tatura).

Of the six votes taken from the poll, two players chose Cobram Victory's Frank Bazzano to win the best and fairest, one chose Shepparton's Stuart Vance, one chose his teammate Andy Ingham and two chose last year's winner, Carl Fannon.

Fannon left the league during the season to play in the Melbourne metropolitan leagues, while Vance is ineligible because of two red cards he picked up during the season.

But three of our long-range tipsters can still get the chocolates, more than five months after making their prediction.
