Melbourne Victory stars hit up Central Park in Shepparton for a clinic on Sunday as youngsters got the chance to learn soccer skills from some of the A-League's top players.
Australian international caps Michael Thwaite and Nick Ward were among the Victory players, with Roddy Vargas, Daniel Vasilevski and goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos hosting the clinic.
A number of Goulburn North East players helped out in the running of the event for about 80 children aged 8-14.
"You could see how enthusiastic the boys and girls were today," Vasilevski said.
"It's important to do clinics like this because players in the country don't get these opportunities often.
"It was good to see players from the summer league, I hear they have started the season well." Thwaite, capped six times for Australia, said it was great to give something back to young players. Growing up in Cairns, Thwaite remembers Frank Farina and the Brisbane Strikers making visits to his region.
"At the moment I'm not in the Australian team and getting back in is going to be tough," he said.
"I'm getting a regular game for my club and as long as I can keep performing the opportunity will hopefully be there. Pim (Verbeek, Australian coach) has a lot of defenders to choose from so I'm going to have to be patient."
