Shepparton News

Shepparton's star strikers Stuart Vance and Samantha McIntosh took out the club's respective best and fairest awards for men and women.

Vance played a key role in Shepparton's North Eastern Soccer League premiership win this season, scoring three goals in the finals series after his 26 regular season strikes to take out the league's golden boot.

In his second season with the Reds, Vance took out the award from club playing coach Andy Ingham.

McIntosh, 19, played her first season of North Eastern league soccer this year after moving from Queensland to Victoria.

The forward made an immediate impact, scoring two goals on her debut before going on to find the net 20 times for the season.

Suzan Tanrikulu finished runner-up to McIntosh for the women's award.

Shepparton United's captain Jimmy Avram has capped a consistent season by winning the Blues' best and fairest.

Men's division two best and fairest winner Ahmet Savran added the Blues' award for the reserves league to his season haul.

Women's best and fairest was league topscorer Jess Theobald.

Other winners were, Justin Kalafatis in under-16s, Andrew Kyriakou in under-14s, Carl O'Keeffe in under12s and Sarina Aloi in junior girls.

Cobram's veteran goalkeeper Darren Valente took out the Tigers' best and fairest to cap a strong individual year for the team that finished sixth and last in men's division one.

Valente played in Cobram's last appearance in a North Eastern league grand final in 1997, but was thrust into the thick of the action this season after original first-choice goalkeeper Angus Allemand was sent off in round one.

Dhiya Al-Mugotir and Ahmed Al-Mugotir were runners-up for the men's award.

The women's best and fairest went to 20-goal attacking midfielder Tania Doyle, with Christina Kalz finishing runner-up.

Other winners for Cobram were, Khalid Alochey in the under16s, Michael Boncaldo in under-14s, Nicholas Felsenthal in under-12s and a tie between Pina Papalia and Emma Reuss in junior girls.
