Battledress clash avoided

The major kit-clash of the women's North Eastern Soccer League has been averted this week with Numurkah ordered to revert to the shirt it wore last season.

The Knights take on Shepparton United this weekend needing points to avoid falling further off top-four pace.

Numurkah sits fifth on the ladder with 13 points, one behind fourth-placed Cobram, two behind Shepparton and three behind Tatura.

United enjoys an 11-point lead at the top, having won all nine of its games to date this season.

The Knights wore their new shirt for this season in round three, predominantly blue with black trimming around the shoulders.

However a complaint from United (all blue) about the colour similarities saw the North Eastern league order Numurkah to revert to the blue-and-black striped shirts it wore last year.

Exacerbating the problem is Numurkah's black shorts and socks, meaning both sides play in dark colours.

While Numurkah was of the belief its new shirt was different enough not to clash with United, the league saw it differently.

``We referred to the last time we had a clash of colours which was between Hanwood and Shepparton United,'' league secretary Sam Saracino said.

``On that occasion Hanwood had to yield to United and play in a white shirt whenever the sides played, home or away.''

When the sides played earlier this year in the clashing shirts, United won 4-0.

In this weekend's other matches Shepparton South hosts Cobram, Cobram Victory needs a result to stay within reach of the top four against Shepparton, and Tatura plays Kyabram.
