Goals galore

Tatura played its second shoot-out in as many weeks, but was on the wrong end of the goal-fest as Cobram Victory triumphed 7-3 in men's North Eastern Soccer League on Sunday.

Victory holds top spot on the ladder with 15 points from Shepparton and Shepparton South on 12 having played a game less than its rivals for the minor premiership.

A clinical Victory raced to a 4-0 lead against a wasteful Tatura side, up 5-1 at half-time.

But the scoreboard failed to reflect Tatura's constant attacks in the end-to-end game, the Ibises chances of winning damaged when David Turkovic missed a penalty with his side 1-0 down.

A red card to Tatura's Anthony Joaqium for an incident after the half-time whistle hardened the Ibsies' resolve in the second half as they fought on with 10 men.

Tatura tied the half 2-2 with goals from Carmelo Bazzano and Sinan Kullukcuoglu, Spiro Vourgaslis its first-half scorer.

Marc Startari and Nick Mantovani both scored twice for Cobram Victory, while single goal-scorers were Nazz Santoro, Raymond Diramacca and Frank Bazzano.

Despite conceding three goals, Victory goalkeeper Angelo Bufalino's penalty save and role keeping Tatura at bay earned him best afield.

Joaqium will automatically miss Tatura's next match in two weeks against Shepparton United and will front the league tribunal on May 22.

High five for Jess

A bag of five goals from Jess Theobald has retained top spot on the table for Shepparton United in a 7-0 win against Kyabram.

The Blues are a perfect five wins from five on top of the women's North Eastern Soccer League ladder, now six points clear of a gaggle of four teams on nine points.

Theobald, who scored 39 goals last season, is now up to 13 this campaign as her haul proved the difference between the sides.

An own goal and Katrina Dimitriadis were the other scorers in the rout.

However, Theobald was yellow-carded during the course of the match and Kyabram's Cathryn Dervish also picked up a booking.

At Scott Oval, a resurgent Tatura broke Cobram Victory's three-game winning streak to pinch third place from Victory on goal difference.

Merve Bolat continued her busy start to the season with both of Tatura's goals to move her tally to four.

Tatura led at half-time 1-0, but a Hayley Cornish goal levelled the game with Victory holding the balance of play.

But Bolat capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put Tatura back in front and give the Ibises the win.
