Tatura overcomes an early shock

Tatura snuffed out Kyabram's hopes of a first ever women's North Eastern Soccer League win with a five-goal second half as the Ibises won 6-2 on Sunday.

The come-from-behind win means Tatura keeps its hold on second place, while Kyabram must wait another week in search of its first ever win.

The Go-Annas took a 2-0 first half lead with a double to Marlene Rodrick, but an immediate reply from Mikayla Lia gave Tatura the momentum at half-time.

Derya Tanrikulu then scored two goals early in the second half to put Tatura in front and with Kyabram heads down the Ibises scored three more with Lia completing her hat-trick and Merve Bolat grabbing the sixth.

Tatura coach Rocco Bagnato said his side hadn't shown Kyabram enough respect and that it was simply a matter of time until a side gave the Go-Annas their first win.

``I had to remind the girls to show Kyabram respect and man them up a bit tighter,'' Bagnato said.

``The girls knew it had been one of their worst performances of the season and had to lift.

``We had most of the play in the second half and got the rewards on the scoresheet.''

Bagnato said keeping second place for another week would only mean something if Tatura could keep winning.

``We've got Cobram next week and they beat us last time,'' he said.

``We're hoping to get Rosemary Scrimizzi back from her knee injury in time for the game.''

Shepparton kept its hold on third place with a 1-0 win against Cobram Victory with new player Suzan Tanrikulu scoring the match winner.

Tanrikulu's first goal in Shepparton colours after transferring from Tatura was enough to keep the Reds in third place and within a point of Tatura.

However, Shepparton's top-scorer Samantha McIntosh missed the match with her shoulder injury sustained at last week's Victorian Country Championships.

``We're confident Sam will be back in time for our match against Shepparton United next week,'' Reds coach Steve Hawkes said.
