Shepparton News

Shepparton South consolidated its place in the North Eastern league top four with a 4-2 win against Cobram on Sunday.

With Shepparton United and Tatura both collecting three points for the bye to move to 16, South's win keeps it in third place on 19 points ahead of the pair.

South led 3-0 at half-time thanks to two goals from Anthony Nicolaci and Brendan Barton.

Cobram pegged one goal back, but substitute Samet Yollu sealed the game with a well-placed strike to open a 4-1 lead.

The Tigers pegged back one goal before the end of a cagey second half, Cobram is now seven points adrift in last place.

South's Connor Campbell picked up his third yellow card of the season and will now miss the Southerners' match against Shepparton in two weeks.

Blues roll on

Shepparton United prodigy Imogen Head continued her outstanding season with a best afield performance as the Blues won 5-0 against Numurkah in women's North Eastern league on Sunday.

A 10th win in as many outings for United sees it 11 points clear on top of the ladder, while Numurkah is now four points off finals pace in fifth.

United raised its 50th goal of the season in the Numurkah win with Sarah Theobald scoring two and one goal each for Head, Holly Dimstas and Danielle Zeqir.

Cobram won 5-0 against Shepparton South in the weekend's other match to put distance between itself in fourth place and Numurkah.

The Tigers' win moves it to 17 points, fifth-placed Numurkah has 13 and sixth-placed Cobram Victory 11.

A nice change

Former Shepparton United midfielder Brendan Beni has enjoyed success in his first game with Victorian state league side Coburg United.

Beni started the season with premier league rival Richmond, but made limited appearances as a substitute before switching to relegation-threatened Coburg.

The former Blue played the full 90 minutes in Coburg's 4-3 win against Australian Institute of Sport at the weekend, a result that lifted Coburg out of the four-team relegation zone.

Coburg has 18 points from 17 games this season, one point ahead of 11th placed Whittlesea Zebras which occupies the highest of the four relegation places.
